Peter Kemp … a story telling photographer
My name is Peter Kemp and I am a freelance photographer living in the Netherlands. With my photowork I am trying to create story telling pictures.
In former days I loved to draw. But nowadays – with digital photography within reach – I got all tools to fit in all details into my photo stories, which are running through my head all day.
My photowork and the vintage moods
Being born in 1960 the time between 30s to 70s got my special interest. It got a hold on me regarding people,
furniture, clothing, colors, props. This mood allows me to propose some glamorous touches into my
pics. I try to create a bit of mystery and glamour.
First by trying to create ” the light” .
Secondly by asking my beautiful models to join me into my photo projects. They are a major factor in setting up my story telling pictures.
They are good looking people, but – more important – they are beautiful inside. All credits to them…
With just a quick look, I am trying to create an attractive photo by
using colors and scenery. But a deeper and longer look might open the door to other ” journies” .
There is some kind of symbolism in my work. Personally I prefer artwork that the viewer has to invest
in. If they do then a more rich experience might be the result.
Teamwork and careful preparation
In my scenes I like to focus on details. All details are thought of
long before the camera clicks. It takes preparation before everybody and everything is in place… The atmosphere into a picture is made far before the shoot.
How? By working closely together with my talented models, make up artists and stylist on our conceptual plan.
It is not the location, but the journey to it which creates the magic…
Living in a hurry … our life of today is made of fast habits and attitudes.
With my photowork, I like to do the opposite. It is like a stopping by, a freeze
in time. Trying to catch and captivate my viewers into `my world `.
Hopefully people are able to create their own little story out of my
picture … if they do … I reached my goal!
